Here at SEAT, we believe that CNG is a credible alternative for the future.

CNG (Compressed Natural Gas) is not only the most eco-friendly fuel, but also less expensive. Actually, CNG is the only real alternative to petroleum products.

Moreover, CNG technology is one of SEAT’s commitments for the future, as well as of the entire VW Group. The SEAT engines that run on CNG meet the strict quality standards of all the engines manufactured by the VW Group.

Last but not least, the cars equipped with CNG technology are subject to the same safety requirements (Crash Test) as other vehicles. And they obtain exactly the same great results!

CNG ADVANTAGES

In terms of Ecology, one of the main advantages of CNG is the significant reduction of CO2 emissions and NOX emissions, which contributes to improving the quality of urban air.

In terms of Economy, the energy content of natural gas is higher than any other fuel available. One kilogram of natural gas contains as much energy as 1.5 litres of petrol, 1.3 litres of diesel, and 2 litres of LPG or Autogas.

Therefore, the fuel consumption savings are huge. For example, the current price per kg in Spain is less than 1 €. The cost per km of CNG is 30% less than for diesel and 50% less than for petrol.

CNG FUNCTIONALITIES

What’s great about CNG engines is that you get the same driving pleasure as with petrol engines: low noise levels, smooth operation of the engine and the gearbox, and great acceleration response, especially in the TGI engines.

CNG SAFETY

The best thing about CNG is that it’s 100% safe. As with all factory-built SEAT cars, the quality control tests are very strict. They’re designed to ensure that the entire fuel system is gas-tight. Moreover, the gas tanks are designed to withstand over twice their maximum working pressure, and each is equipped with a separate safety valve. All tests are carried out with a full tank in specifically designed facilities.

CNG DISTRIBUTION NETWORK

The following map shows the current situation of public CNG stations in Europe. As you can see, there is already a dense infrastructure of gas stations offering CNG in a number of markets.

SEAT CARS CURRENTLY RUNNING ON CNG

The SEAT Leon 5D TGI, the SEAT Leon ST TGI and the SEAT Mii Ecofuel. These three versions are outstanding in their efficiency, reduced fuel consumption and carbon emissions, not to mention their truly economical per-kilometre costs.

Incredible but true: The SEAT Leon 5D TGI and the SEAT Leon ST TGI can go from Barcelona to Madrid (620 km) on barely 20 € of fuel and the Mii Ecofuel can do Barcelona to Zaragoza (315 km) on less than 10 €.
